Michael D. Smith (Smitty) Local 840 member since 1996
Smitty has been serving Local 840 as it’s Training Director since July 2018. Prior to that he was Asst. Training Director since 2011. Some of his other duties include; 5th year Apprenticeship Instructor, OSHA Outreach Trainer, Code of Excellence Trainer, NFPA70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace) Trainer. A graduate of the Electrical Training Alliances’ “National Training Institute” and the U.S. Navy’s “Instructor Training” School. He is a 10 year U.S. Navy veteran and resides in Waterloo, N.Y.
Asst. Training Director/JATC Instructor:
R. Steven Ross (Steve) Local 840 member since 2006
Steve is currently serving Local 840 as it’s 2 nd year Apprenticeship Instructor. Some of his other duties include; Photovoltaic Systems Trainer, Scaffolding
Trainer, CPR/AED/First Aid Trainer, Foreman Development, and Craft Certification Evaluator. He has completed the first 2 years of the Electrical Training Alliances’ National Training Institute and is slated for his 3 rd year this coming August. He is a 6 year U.S. Army reservist veteran and resides in Farmington, N.Y.
JATC Instructor:
Jan Morganti (Jano) Local 840 member since 1997
Jano is currently serving Local 840 as it’s 3rd year Apprenticeship Instructor. Some of his other duties include; CPR/AED/First Aid instructor, Code of Excellence Instructor and Basic Rigging Trainer. He has completed the first 3 years of the Electrical Training Alliances’ National Training Institute and is slated to complete the 4th year and graduate in August 2020. He holds a B.S. in Education from SUNY Cortland and resides in Stanley, N.Y.

Ernest W. Callaway IV (Ernie) Local 840 member since 1989
Ernie is currently serving Local 840 as it’s 4th year Apprenticeship Instructor. Some of his other duties include; Motors and Motor control Journeyman Trainer and High Voltage/Sub-station Journeyman Trainer. He has completed the first year of the Electrical Training Alliances’ National Training Institute. He is a 4 year U.S. Navy veteran and resides in Dresden, N.Y.

Scott Goodsell (Scotty) Local 840 member since 1998
Scotty is currently serving Local 840 as it’s 1st year Apprenticeship Instructor. Some of his other duties include; NFPA70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace) Instructor and Craft Certification Evaluator. He has completed the first year of the Electrical Training Alliances’ National Training Institute. He holds an A.S. in Construction and Maintenance Electrician from Alfred State College and resides in Clifton Springs, N.Y.
JATC/CE/CW Instructor:
Andrew S. Hansen (Andy) Local 840 member since 2010
Andy is currently serving Local 840 as it’s primary CE/CW instructor. Some of his other duties include; Substitute JATC instructor, Apprentice Hands-on- Trainer and future Craft Certification Evaluator. He holds multiple advanced degrees to include; M.S. in Biology (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute), Ph.D. in Botany (Univ. of Hawaii) and Ph.D. in Biological Oceanography (Univ. of Hawaii) and currently resides in Waterloo, N.Y.
JATC Substitute Instructor:
Peter Craig (Pete) Local 840 member since 2010
Pete is currently serving Local 840 as it’s primary substitute JATC instructor. Some of his other duties include; Apprentice Hands-on -Trainer and future Craft Certification Evaluator. He currently resides in Waterloo, N.Y
